Packing List Maker

Overpacking and forgetting the adapter happen to everyone. Pick how long you are going, the weather, the type of trip and whether you are travelling carry-on only. The list maker builds a checklist with sensible amounts (it assumes you can wash clothes on longer trips), grouped so you can pack bag by bag. Tick items as they go in.

How it works

• Items are tagged for every trip, or for certain weather, trip types, going abroad or long flights
• Daily items (tops, underwear, socks) = one per day, up to 7 if you can wash clothes (5 if carry-on only)
• Bottoms = about half the number of days, at least 2
• Carry-on only adds a reminder about the 100 ml liquids rule for many airports

Three things this tool can't see

• Airline rules. Bag size, weight and liquid rules differ by airline and airport. Check before you pack.
• Entry rules. Passport validity and visa rules change. Check official government sources.
• Your plans. Add anything special, like a wedding outfit or sports gear.
